Launch of 'A Person A Day: NYC'

I’ve never been big on new years resolutions, but this year I decided to change things up. Starting tonight, I will be launching a blog called ‘A Person A Day: NYC’. The idea is to meet one new person everyday, and blog about the interaction. This idea stemmed from a mix of “resolutions”:

-blog once a day

-meet new people

-get used to uncomfortable/awkward situations

But it doesn’t end there. My friend Kevin and I started ‘Some People A Day’, with the hope to get this idea started in other cities. Starting in February, we will launch ‘A Person A Day: Cambridge’ (Kevin goes to MIT).

We hope to get people motivated to get out there and take advantage of all of the kickass people in their city. So if you’re shy or lonely, get out there and start meeting people. We sure will!

Check it out!

I'm Learning How to Build Dynamic Websites. U mad bro?

So I’ve decided to spend my precious free time (yeah, right) to learn how to build dynamic webpages! I’ll be posting all of my notes so anyone can use them.

Here is some information on the course:

Link: http://academicearth.org/courses/building-dynamic-websites

Professor: David Malan

Course Description:

Today’s websites are increasingly dynamic. Pages are no longer static HTML files but instead generated by scripts and database calls. User interfaces are more seamless, with technologies likeAjax replacing traditional page reloads. This course teaches students how to build dynamic websites with Ajax and with Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LAMP), one of today’s most popular frameworks. Students learn how to set up domain names with DNS, how to structure pages with XHTML and CSS, how to program in JavaScript and PHP, how to configure Apache and MySQL, how to design andquery databases with SQL, how to use Ajax with both XML and JSON, and how to build mashups. The course explores issues of security, scalability, and cross-browser support and also discusses enterprise-level deployments of websites, including third-party hosting, virtualization, colocation in data centers, firewalling, and load-balancing.

Ready to kick some ass? OH HELL YEAH

Will Your College Survive? → techcrunch.com

Peter Thiel believes smart people don’t need college, and he’s right: There have always been autodidacts who can learn without assistance. Of course, we don’t really need supermarkets and restaurants either; we could all grow and cook our own food.

Yet having professionals help us has always been a cost-benefit decision. What are the costs of a great education, including the opportunity cost of four years of work, and how do these costs balance against the impact of that education on your life?
